Local Roundup - Cain is able to pace HCC

WILKESBORO, N.C. - Sam Cain scored 29 points, including the final five of the game, to help lift Hagerstown Community College to a 70-64 victory Sunday over host Wilkes in the Wilkesboro Tournament mixer.

HCC led 65-64 with the ball in a timeout with 43 seconds remaining. The Hawks (6-2) attempted to run a baseline play for Cristi Bartlett under the basket, but were force to go to Cain as the second option.

Cain buried a 25-foot 3-pointer to give HCC a four-point lead.

Wilkes missed on its possession with the rebound going to HCC's Chrissy Minnick. Minnick fed the ball to Cain, who was fouled and hit both foul shots to seal the victory.

Cain hit 11 of her 15 shots, including five of eight 3-point tries. Bartlett finished with 18 points and 18 rebounds while Jamie Robinson added 10 points and 10 rebounds.



Goretti 46, Salisbury Day 43

SALISBURY, Md. - Sarah Spierenburg had 11 points and nine rebounds for Goretti (4-0) in a win against Salisbury Day (0-2).

On Saturday, Spierenburg had 11 points and five rebounds to lead Goretti to a 30-21 win over Gunston Day (0-2).


Mercersburg 70St. Stephens/St. Agnes 67

WHEATON, Md. - Colin Cubit had 18 points to lead Mercersburg over St. Stephens/St. Agnes in Good Counsel Tournament play.

Alex Tyler posted a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds and Josh Davis added 13 points for the Blue Storm (2-0).

McConnellsburg 58Mount Union 51

ORBISONIA, Pa. - Russell Glazier scored a game-high 32 points to lead McConnellsburg to an overtime victory over Mount Union in the championship game of the Southern Huntingdon Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday.

J.J. Grace had 11 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists for McConnellsburg (2-0), while David Thomas had 10 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots and Mike Defibaugh added 10 rebounds.

Cody Hollibaugh had 14 points for Mount Union (1-1).
