St. John's Episcopal Church, Hagerstown, the Rev. Scott Bellows will speak at the 8 and 10:15 a.m. communion/litany of healing services this Sunday. Judy and Ashley Myers, duet, and the youth choir will present music at the later service.

Christian education for all ages begins at 9 a.m.




St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Smithsburg, the Rev. Mark Mooney will be speaking at 9:30 a.m. this Sunday on the topic, Preparing the Way. Mooney and Joseph the puppet will also be featured at the service.

Sunday School classes for children, youth and adults are at 10:45 a.m. A five-week study which will continue through December focuses on Being a United Methodist.




St. Catherine Eastern Orthodox Church of Hagerstown, a Saint Nicholas Christmas party for children ages 2 to 13 will be today from 2 to 5 p.m. Canned goods will be collected for the local food bank. Vespers tonight begin at 5:30 and will be followed by a reception.

Father Dennis Buck and special guest, founder Father Basil Summer, will be concelebrating Divine Liturgy this Sunday at 10 a.m. Summer will deliver the homily. Church school is at 11:30 a.m. for the children.

A potluck luncheon in honor of Summer will follow. The church, which began in 1981 with about eight members, is celebrating the beginning of its silver anniversary.

On Tuesday at 10 a.m., a Divine Liturgy will be held to commemorate Saint Nicholas, the wonder worker, Archbishop of Myra.




Christ Reformed UCC in Cavetown, the Rev. Carol Hallman will speak at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday on the topic, Advent Wilderness Wanderings.

Sunday school is at 9:15 a.m.




Valley Assembly of God Christian Life Center, 17544 York Road, Hagerstown, the Rev. Robert C. Jones will speak on the topic, Expectations, at the 10 a.m. service this Sunday.

At the Sunday evening service, the topic is The Good Samaritan Revisited.




Calvary United Methodist Church, Martinsburg, W.Va., the message at the 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. communion services this Sunday is The Harbinger.

There will be an Advent celebration at 9:30 a.m. with the children's Christmas pageant.




Unity, Shepherdstown, W.Va., this Sunday at 11 a.m., the Rev. Anne Murphy will speak on the topic, Where is Heaven?

Unity meets in Shepherdstown's historic train station between German and High streets.




Zion United Church of Christ, the Rev. Robert Royal will speak at the 11 a.m. service this Sunday on the topic, Bringing God Near When He Seems So Far.

Sunday school begins at 9:15 a.m.




Calvary Grace Brethren Church, Pastor Doug Courter will speak at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday on the topic, How to Look Good In Armor, Part 5.

Sunday school is at 9:15 a.m. The Successful Failure - Jonah, Part 9 will be the theme of the 6 p.m. service Sunday.

Tuesday Bible study is at 10 a.m. Wednesday programs for all ages begin at 6:30 p.m.




Asbury United Methodist Church, Shepherdstown, W.Va., the Rev. Rudolph Bropleh will lead the 11 a.m. service this Sunday on the topic, Help is on the Way.

Sunday school for all ages begins at 9:30 a.m.




Pikeside United Methodist Church, Paynes Ford Road and U.S. 11, Martinsburg, W.Va., the Rev. Thomas Young Jr. will bring the message, Time to Wait, at the 8:30 and 10:35 a.m. communion services this Sunday.

Sunday School for all ages is at 9:15 a.m.

Bible studies are Tuesdays at 10 a.m., Thursdays at 7 p.m. and Friday at 10 a.m.




Mount Vernon Reformed UCC, Keedysville, the Rev. Delancy Catlett will lead the 10:40 a.m. service this Sunday. The topic is Prepare the Way.




Christ Reformed United Church of Christ, Sharpsburg, a special service will be held today at 2:30 p.m. prior to the lighting of the luminaries on the Antietam National Battlefield, illuminating the season with a service of singing and carols with local recording artist, Eric Cooper.

The Rev. Delancy Catlett will bring the message, Prepare the Way, during the 9 a.m. service this Sunday.

Children's Sunday school begins at 10 a.m.




On Saturday, Dec. 10 at 4 p.m. the Catoctin Association, Central Atlantic Conference of the United Church of Christ will install Catlett as the pastor of Christ Reformed. The Rev. Douglas Griffin will be preaching on the topic, Feed My Sheep.




Sharpsburg Church of the Brethren, Pastor Homer Nutting Jr. will be speaking this Sunday at 9:30 a.m. on the topic, Prepare the Way. Donna Nutting is worship leader. Donna Nutting and Carman Canfield will light the second Advent candle.

Sunday school is at 10 a.m. for children and 10:45 a.m. for adults.




Church of the Holy Trinity, Halfway, Interim Pastor Ted Haas will be conducting the 10:45 a.m. service this Sunday on the topic, See the Little Baby, Hold the Little Baby, Love the Little Baby. Children's church meets during the service. Fellowship and light refreshments follow the service.
