I-70 accident causes minor injuries

December 01, 2005

The driver of a FedEx box truck suffered minor injuries Tuesday afternoon when he drove down an embankment on Interstate 70, according to Maryland State Police Sgt. Kevin Lewis.

Lewis said the driver, Matthew Phillip Riggins, 21, lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons about 12:30 p.m. Riggins' address was unknown Tuesday night.

Riggins drove the truck into a guardrail on the shoulder of I-70 near Walnut Point Road, Lewis said. After the FedEx truck was behind the guardrail, the vehicle slid down a slight embankment near the highway.

Riggins was taken to Washington County Hospital with "very minor" injuries, Lewis said.

There were no other vehicles involved in the crash.
