The Washington County Sheriff's Department is seeking the public's help in finding a registered sex offender who allegedly failed to update his address, according to a written release from Lt. Art Overcash.

Chester Laverne Perry, 52, whose last known address was 645 Oak Hill Ave. in Hagerstown, is wanted through an arrest warrant for allegedly failing to notify the Sex Offender Registry Unit of his address change, Overcash wrote.

Perry was convicted of rape in Sacramento, Calif., in 1981, the release states. He is listed on the registry as a sexually violent offender, according to the Maryland Sex Offender Registry Web site. Overcash said his whereabouts are unknown.

Perry is a white man, 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds. He has black hair and hazel eyes, according to the release.
