Fire destroys one-story W.Va. house

November 20, 2005

INWOOD, W.Va. - A one-story house that was undergoing renovations in southern Berkeley County was destroyed on Saturday afternoon by a fire of unknown origin, an officer with the South Berkeley Fire Department said.

Capt. P.J. Burroughs said the house, on Giles Mill Road, was destroyed by the time the first units arrived.

"One of our members lives close by, and he said it was fully involved when he got there," Burroughs said.

The alarm came in at 12:32 p.m., Burroughs said.

Burroughs could not identify the owner of the house.

"He had not arrived by the time we left the scene around 2:30 p.m.," he said.

There was no damage estimate.

Units from Back Creek Valley and Frederick County, Va., responded, Burroughs said.
