Two men injured in accident

THURMONT, Md. - Two Frederick County men were flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore on Friday night after the vehicle they were in ran off the road and struck a tree, Maryland State Police in Frederick said.

Ilo William Blentlinger, 18, of New Market, Md., was in serious condition and Gabriel Gary Lewis III, 23, of Thurmont, was in critical condition Saturday night, a trauma center spokeswoman said.

The accident occurred on Md. 550 near Catoctin High School.

Police responded to the scene at 11:22 p.m. They said a red Dodge Ram 3500 driven by Blentlinger was northbound on Md. 550 when it went off the right shoulder for an "unknown reason" and struck a tree.

Blentlinger and Lewis were trapped in the vehicle for approximately 40 minutes, police said.

Trooper 1st Class David Ward is investigating the accident, police said.
