FREDERICK, Md. - A Bowie, Md., man died Friday afternoon at Frederick Memorial Hospital following a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 west of Frederick, Maryland State Police said.
Police identified the dead man as Surajudeen Ayinia Banwo, 59.
According to Cpl. Jim Bonneville, Banwo's 14-year-old son, a passenger, was flown to John Hopkins Pediatric Center, where he was undergoing surgery for a fractured leg.
Police said Banwo was eastbound in his 1998 BMW when it was struck head-on by a 1997 Mitsubishi driven by a Hagerstown woman. Her vehicle crossed the median and headed into the eastbound lane.
Police declined to identify the woman, saying the accident still was under investigation.
The woman was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. Bonneville said Friday night that she was in critical condition.
