Preschool at War Memorial Park



There are openings in the preschool at War Memorial Park for children who are 4 years old as of September 1, 2005. The program is sponsored by Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks & Recreation. It meets twice weekly, on Monday and Wednesday afternoons, from 12:45 to 3:15 p.m. at War Memorial Park. This is an eight-month program (mid-September through mid-May). Preschool is held in the multipurpose room of the bathhouse at War Memorial Park. The emphasis is on recreation, socialization and education. The fee for this program is $100 per month. Weight-management workshop offered



Tammy Thornton, registered dietitian, Nutrition & Wellness Services at Washington County Health Department, will conduct a workshop, "Your Child's Weight, What's a Parent to Do?" from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, at Washington County Health Department, second floor auditorium, 1302 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.

The workshop will help you raise your child to get the body that nature intended. Discover the underlying reasons children get too heavy and learn how to help without harming.

Fridays at the library for home-schoolers



The next "Fridays at the Library" for home-schooled students will be "Researching Christmas Customs" and will be held Friday, Dec. 9, at Central Library of Washington County Free Library, 100 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The elementary program will be from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Children's Department, and the high school program will be from 2 to 3 p.m. in the computer lab. Middle-school students may choose which session they want to attend.

Kevin Rawlings will appear in his Civil War Santa costume. Rawlings and Mr. Jeff will conduct a hands-on research workshop on Christmas customs around the world.

The Washington County Free Library hosts a series of free programs for home-schooled students titled "Fridays at the Library" on the second Friday of every month during the school year. No registration is required.




A "Fridays at the Library" for home-schooled students also will be Friday, Jan. 13. "Animals at the Library" is at Central Library of Washington County Free Library's B/C Meeting Room, 100 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The elementary program will be from 1 to 2 p.m. and the high school program will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Middle-school students may choose which session they want to attend.

The Humane Society of Washington County will bring dogs and cats, and talk about the care of pets and how to adopt an animal from the Humane Society.
