MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Six people were left homeless after fire raced through a house along Blairton Road Wednesday night, a fire official said.

The house was well-involved in flames when fire crews arrived on the scene, said Lt. Dennis Soward of the Baker Heights Volunteer Fire Co.

Soward said he couldn't determine where the fire started or its origin.

The fire was reported at 6:36 p.m. and at least seven fire departments from Berkeley and Jefferson counties responded to the blaze, dispatchers said.

The fire was brought under control about 8:10 p.m., officials said.

The brown and yellow, two-story house was destroyed in the fire, Soward said.

It is near the intersection with W.Va. 45, east of Martinsburg.

The local chapter of the American Red Cross was helping the occupants find housing.
