It's time to apply for Md. Holstein scholarships

November 15, 2005

The Maryland Holstein Scholarship Committee announces that these scholarships are available to Maryland Holstein youth:

A $2,000 scholarship to the Outstanding Maryland Holstein Scholar; and Four $750 scholarships.

The scholarships will be awarded at the Maryland Holstein Convention next spring.

The scholarships are offered to Maryland 4-H/FFA youth who are enrolled or have been enrolled in a dairy project with Holstein cattle.

The scholarships are available to both undergraduate and graduate students. Students must be attending a two-year or four-year degree granting institution in a College of Agriculture.

The $2,000 Outstanding Maryland Holstein Scholar Award is offered to the most outstanding applicant, based on Holstein project activities and accomplishments, scholastic achievements, 4-H/FFA activities, school and community activities, and future goals.

Applicants are eligible to win a scholarship twice, but can win the $2,000 Outstanding Maryland Holstein Scholar Award only once.

Started in 1973, the scholarship program has grown in the number of awards given and in monetary levels, thanks to support from Maryland Holstein members and friends, the committee said in a press release.

Applications can be obtained by contacting Arthur and Peggy Johnson, committee co-chairs, at 1-301-972-8274.

Applications must be typed in the space allotted, and an official academic transcript, along with a recent photo, must accompany the application. All applications must be postmarked no later than Jan. 15.
