Man facing sex charges given stay

Court proceedings were stopped indefinitely Thursday against a Hagerstown man charged with sex offense.

Jason Lance Sweet, 23, of 37 N. Mulberry St., Apt. 5, was charged with fourth-degree sex offense and second-degree assault in an Aug. 16 incident, according to Washington County District Court documents. Sweet was granted a stet - a conditional, indefinite stay on further proceedings - on these charges, documents state.

Sweet is accused of following a girl from Valley Mall in Hagerstown and later touching her without her consent, documents state. The girl said Sweet offered her a soda, which she drank. A short time later, she began to feel dizzy and had trouble walking, documents state.

Sweet began to touch the girl over her clothing, documents state. When the girl resisted the touching, Sweet hit her in the face, documents state.

The girl later told her mother about the incident, and the mother told the police, documents state.
