Artists welcome public during studio tour

November 10, 2005|by JULIE E. GREENE

Mary Kay Anderson demonstrates decorative painting at her Shepherdstown, W.Va.-area home. "I like to paint on things that are of no use anymore, sort of like old treasures. I like to make them a treasure you can use in your house now," she says. Anderson also paints new things and items people bring her.

Anderson is among 22 artisans who will explain their craft - many will also demonstrate - this weekend at 10 studios in Jefferson County, W.Va., during the 16th annual Over the Mountain Studio Tour.

Crafts include pottery, blacksmith work, needlework, baskets, handmade animals, lampworked glass, gourd art, hand-carved wooden bowls, paper art, chairs, and jewelry. Each artist has created a piece to be given as a door prize.

The tour is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, and Sunday, Nov. 13. Admission is free. Every studio will have refreshments. Crafts are for sale.
