FREDERICK, Md. - Tuscarora advanced to the Maryland Class 3A semifinals with a 1-0 victory over Urbana in the West championship Tuesday.
The Titans (15-1) will host River Hill on Friday at 5 p.m.
The only goal of the match came with less than three minutes before the end of regulation when Callie Simpkins beat Urbana keeper Stephanie Gwinn.
"It was a restart, a direct kick from abut 30 yards out on the right sideline," Tuscarora coach Mark Wolcott said. "Danielle (Roos) drove the ball into the box and Callie volleyed the ball out of the air from about 6 to 8 yards out. It was a special moment."
Emmy Simpkins had six saves for the Titans, who were outshot, 7-4.
