Cunningham wins district judge seat

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Duane K. Cunningham bested incumbent Magisterial District Judge Shirley M. Shatzer by 378 votes in Tuesday's election.

Cunningham won a six-year term as judge in the Franklin County magisterial district, which encompasses the Borough of Greencastle and Antrim Township.

According to complete but unofficial results, Cunningham received 1,586 votes and Shatzer received 1,208.

Shatzer, 68, of 142 E. Madison St., Greencastle, has served as district judge since 1998.

Cunningham, 37, of 883 Buchanan Trail East, Greencastle, is self-employed at Cunningham's Body Shop.

Magisterial district judges earn an annual salary of $64,000, Shatzer said.

Running unopposed were Chambersburg District Magistrate Gary Carter, Waynesboro District Magistrate Larry Pentz and Mercersburg District Magistrate David Hawbaker.

Hawbaker, 54, of 4012 Fort Loudon Road, Mercersburg, has served as district justice for 24 years. He won a fifth six-year term.
