Movies opening this week

"Derailed" (R) - Charles, a successful ad executive and loyal family man meets an alluring and sexy woman on his morning commute. Flirtation turns into passion. But the fling becomes dangerous when a violent criminal pulls them into a treacherous plot that threatens their families. With their lives turned upside down, Charles must somehow save their families. Starring Clive Owen, Jennifer Aniston, Melissa George, Vincent Cassel and Robert "The RZA" Diggs.

"Get Rich or Die Tryin'" (R) - An orphaned street kid (Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson) makes his mark in the drug trade, but finally dares to leave the violence of his former life behind to pursue a promising career in the music business as a rapper. Joy Bryant, Benz Antoinee, Viola Davis and Terrence Dashon Howard also star.

"Zathura" (PG) - Two brothers play a magical board game which transports their house into outer space. And the only way to get back is to keep playing. Starring Josh Hutcherson, Jonah Bobo, Dax Shepard, Kristen Stewart and Tim Robbins.


Essay contest

Teachers Against Prejudice's essay contest

Open to students in grades five through 12.

Entry deadline is Dec. 16.

Teachers Against Prejudice is sponsoring its sixth annual essay contest for students in two categories: One for middle school students and one for high school students. First-place winners in each category will receive a $150 U.S. savings bond. Second-place winners in each category will receive a $75 U.S. savings bond.

High school and Middle school students will enter an essay on the influence of bias or prejudice in news stories or popular entertainment. Complete contest details are at Entries must be postmarked by Dec. 16. Winners will be notified by March 1, 2006.
