Boonsboro, TJ given No. 2 seeds

Boonsboro and Thomas Johnson earned the highest seeds among area volleyball teams for the Maryland regional playoffs, starting Friday.

Boonsboro (12-1) will host the winner of Friday's first-round matchup between No. 10-seed Hancock (2-11) and No. 7-seed Beall in Monday's quarterfinals.

On the other side of the 1A West bracket, No. 8-seed Clear Spring (3-11) hosts No. 9-seed Smithsburg (10-4) on Friday, while No. 4-seed Williamsport (11-3) starts its attempt at a four-peat on Monday, hosting Westmar in the quarters. No. 1-seed Fort Hill awaits as a possible semifinal opponent.

In Class 4A North, Thomas Johnson (13-1) will host the Parkville-Blake winner Monday.

In 1A South - a region with just seven teams - No. 5-seed Brunswick (0-15) travels to No. 4-seed Western STES and No. 3-seed Catoctin (9-6) hosts No. 6-seed Harford Tech on Monday.


In 2A West, No. 11-seed North Hagerstown (5-7) travels to No. 6-seed Rockville and No. 7-seed Middletown (5-9) hosts No. 10-seed Walkersville (6-6) in first-round games Friday.

No. 4-seed South Hagerstown (9-6) and No. 5-seed Frederick (5-8) received byes and the Rebels will host the Cadets on Monday. The winner likely will have to travel to defending 2A champion and top-seed Liberty in the semifinals.

In 3A West, No. 7-seed Tuscarora (5-7) hosts No. 10-seed Kennedy on Friday.
