The Waltersdorf/Henson $10 Million Endowment Challenge is well under way at the Community Foundation of Washington County.
All 16 of the participating agencies have deposited at least 10 percent of their fundraising goal, as required, and the funds will be matched in accordance with the challenge guidelines. Almost $1 million has been raised so far.
As the sponsoring entity, the Community Foundation is required to participate in the challenge and has set a $500,000 fund raising goal. As a result of the additional $1 million raised, the foundation hopes, by the end of the five-year campaign, to increase its unrestricted grant-making capacity to nonprofit agencies in the Washington County Community to $100,000, as compared to the $25,000 it grants today. Thus, the Community Foundation will be in a much stronger position to promote philanthropic giving in the county.
In addition to the Foundation's Board of Trustees, local individuals and businesses are contributing to the foundation's efforts.
