James Buchanan student picked for conference

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Nathaniel Bachtell will attend the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C., in November.

Nathaniel was nominated to attend the conference by one of his James Buchanan Middle School teachers.

The six-day conference will combine educational activities and presentations with elected officials and Congressional staff members.

A seventh-grader, Nathaniel, 12, plays cello in the school's orchestra and percussion in the school's band, is a member of the school's art club, and is a Boy Scout first class in Troop 28. He plays soccer and enjoys snowboarding.

Nathaniel is the son of Rodney Bachtell and Kathleen McCloskey of Mercersburg, and the grandson of George and Sis Bachtell of Hagerstown, Pete McCloskey of Rumsey, Calif., and Caroline Rayfield of Dana Point, Calif.
