Pa. woman charged with writing bad checks, theft

A Pennsylvania woman was charged Monday with writing bad checks in Hagerstown.

Wendy Lynn Proud, 28, of 12255 Penmar Road in Waynesboro, Pa., was charged with two counts of writing bad checks from an account with insufficient funds, plotting to write bad checks, three counts of theft and two counts of uttering false documents, according to Washington County District Court documents.

Proud was charged after an employee at Leitersburg Liberty service station, at 21332 Leitersburg Pike in Hagerstown, told police Proud had written bad checks at the store several times and was in the store Monday, documents state. Proud's Commerce Bank checking account was closed Aug. 31 because of an "excessive negative balance," documents state.

Proud wrote nearly $550 in bad checks to the Liberty station, according to court documents. Proud also is accused of writing a number of other bad checks to local pharmacies.
