Auditions scheduled for 'The Nutcracker'

The Academy of the Hagerstown Ballet and Antietam Ballet Theatre will hold open auditions for roles in the annual performance of "The Nutcracker" ballet on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 10 a.m.

The auditions will be at the theater at 104 S. Mechanic St. in Sharpsburg.

The auditions are open to the public. Male and female dancers of all ages are needed. No prior ballet training is required.

Dancers are asked to arrive by 9:45 a.m. to register and prepare to perform. Appropriate dance attire should be worn. There is no audition fee.

Children who wish to audition must be at least 6 years old and must be accompanied by an adult. Please provide children's height, weight, and dress, shirt and pants sizes.

The Academy of the Hagerstown Ballet and the Antietam Ballet Theatre will present six performances of "The Nutcracker," on Dec. 9, 10, 11 and 16, 17, 18. Rehearsals will be on Saturdays at 10 a.m. Both rehearsals and the performance will take place at the Sharpsburg Theatre.

The Academy of the Hagerstown Ballet and Antietam Ballet Theatre are under the direction of Carolou Russell. Many of Russell's students have gone on to perform with dance companies on the national and professional stage.
