HCC gets grant for computers

October 24, 2005

Hagerstown Community College has received a $37,245 grant from the Verizon Foundation.

The money will be used to purchase 40 laptop computers and two storage carts, which will function as mobile computer labs.

LuAnn Fisher, HCC's public services librarian, wrote the Verizon grant this past summer. The learning technologies division plans to have the computers configured in time for the spring 2006 semester.

"The Verizon Foundation is a strong supporter of technology in education and they have made it possible for us to meet several needs on campus," said James Feagin, director of library services and learning technologies. "The portable labs will be especially valuable with the increasing challenge of scheduling classes during building renovations."
