Veterans Day ceremony set

October 22, 2005

The auxiliary of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 will sponsor a Veterans Day ceremony on the steps of the Washington County Courthouse on Friday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m.

This is the traditional time for Veterans Day observances because the Armistice to end World War I was signed at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month.

The ceremony will include laying of wreaths in honor and memory of veterans by many service organizations and city and county officials.

The guest speaker will be Washington County Sheriff's Department Deputy Daniel L. Watson Jr., who was deployed to Iraq last year. Watson, a K-9 handler with the sheriff's department, also served in Desert Storm and Bosnia.

The block of West Washington Street near the courthouse will be closed from 11 a.m. to noon for the ceremony.

A reception will follow the ceremony at the Legion Post Home on Northern Avenue in Hagerstown.
