Mardi-Fest is slated for Saturday in Rouzerville

October 20, 2005

ROUZERVILLE, Pa. - Bob and Ann Backer, owners of Blondies, a bar and restaurant at 11737 Old Route 16, are planning a takeoff on a New Orleans Mardi Gras festival to raise money for Gulf Coast hurricane victims this weekend.

The event is being called Mardi-Fest, in keeping with a New Orleans theme, Bob Backer said.

For $30 each or $50 per couple, patrons can enjoy typical seafood fare of crabs, shrimp and clams. Crawdads, the staple of Louisiana Cajun cooking, will not be available, Backer said.

Entertainment will be provided by a four-person combo. A retro bicycle has been donated to be auctioned to add to the fundraising total, he said.

All proceeds will go to The Salvation Army to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita, Backer said.

Mardi-Fest runs from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday.
