Some blank looks greeted students' reading of poetry at Tuesday night's Washington Board of Education meeting.
While some audience members struggled to recall rusty foreign-language skills, the board reacted with "ooh-la-la."
Williamsport High School freshman Shannon Draper, sophomores Hannah Garling and Kara Hardy, and junior Jenny Swecker shared their poetry - in French - and projects with the board, which honored them and teacher Paula Moore.
Sophomore Brittany McHenry, who also was honored as a world-class student, could not attend the meeting, said Moore, who this summer was named one of seven finalists for Maryland Teacher of the Year.
