Humane Society accepting donations
The Humane Society of Washington County is accepting donations to assist rescuers and animals in the areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
Items needed include large kennels; free-standing chain-link kennels; small animal housing for birds, fish, etc.; disposable litter pans and food bowls; sealable bags; padlocks with keys; industrial-strength latex gloves; rubber gloves; cotton balls; contractor-strength trash bags; and pooper scoopers.
Donations may be dropped off at the Humane Society shelter, 13011 Maugansville Road, Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Donations will not be collected Sunday and Monday.
Bowman Sales & Equipment has donated a trailer for the supplies. Humane Society officials still are seeking a donated tractor and driver to deliver the supplies. For information, call 301-733-2060.
High-schoolers raise money for items
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Several high school students are raising money with the Northern West Virginia Center for Independent Living to meet the needs of senior citizens and people with disabilities in the New Orleans and Biloxi, Miss., areas.
All of the money raised will pay for items such as medicine, medical supplies, durable medical goods, food and clothing, according to a news release.

Fleetwood Travel Trailers joins effort
WILLIAMSPORT - Fleetwood Travel Trailers of Maryland is accepting donations for victims of Hurricane Katrina.
The plant, on Governor Lane Boulevard, is accepting donations weekdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The items will be transported to a Salvation Army distribution point in Jackson, Miss. The trailer is being donated by Bowman Sales in Williamsport.
Items requested are individual-sized bottled water, sanitary supplies/cleaning, paper goods, medical supplies, baby supplies, diapers, energy drinks, energy bars, dry cereal, powdered milk, canned food goods, dry pet food, chain saws, rip saws and trash bags.
Donors are asked not to bring clothing. Items should be boxed when possible.
