Local boys attain Eagle Scout rank

October 17, 2005

Two local Boy Scouts recently completed their community service requirement to attain the rank of Eagle Scout by assisting with projects benefiting the Partners For Success Family Support Center at Marshall Street School in Hagerstown.

Family Support Coordinator Toni Nelson had proposed a project involving replacing shelving and storage units for books, toys and other equipment used by families who have children with special needs in Washington County Public Schools.

Nelson's son Josh, from Troop 26 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Hagerstown, and Tim Bair, from Troop 99 in Greencastle, Pa., each worked on one aspect of the project. Josh completed a cubby space for the special toys and equipment in about two months, and Tim finished a shelving unit for books and equipment in about four months. Each boy solicited and collected contributions from local businesses to help with the cost of materials.

Both Scouts will receive their Eagle honors at separate Court of Honor ceremonies at a later date.
