Amnesty International Upper Potomac Chapter 539

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Today, 7 p.m., Room 109 in White Hall, Shepherd University, (High Street at the corner of Princess). Letter-writing meeting. Background information, including excerpts from a BBC documentary "Curse of Oil," will be shown and model letters will be provided to help raise awareness about the oil-related problems plaguing residents in Ecuador's Amazon basin. Blue Ridge Garden Club

American Association of University Women

Kara Bowers of Leggs Hanes, Bali Playtex will share information about the proper fit of brassieres. Ebenezer AME Church Men's Day turkey, ham dinner

Today, 2 p.m., Bethel Gardens Community Center, Hagerstown. Menu includes roast turkey, stuffing, ham, mashed potatoes with gravy, sauerkraut, green beans, cranberry sauce, assorted desserts, iced tea or lemonade. Cost is $8.

Quincy Benefit Auction

QUINCY, Pa. - Tuesday, Oct. 18, doors open at 4 p.m., auction from 5 to 9 p.m., Hess Community Room of Minnich Manor at Quincy Retirement Community. The silent auction begins at 5 p.m., live auction at 7 p.m. In addition to food concession, the auction will offer handmade quilts, antique furniture, child's Blue Willow dish set in box, services, certificates and more. Admission is free for general seating. Reserved seating for table of eight is $15. Proceeds benefit renovation of the Colestock Center of Quincy United Methodist Home and Quincy Retirement Community. Pancake supper

WILLIAMSPORT - Tuesday, Oct. 18, 5 to 7 p.m., Fellowship Hall of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 10813 Donelson Drive. The men of the church are hosting the supper. Sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary of William D. Byron VFW Post 1936, Friday, Oct. 21, 6 p.m., 70 E. Washington St., Hagerstown. Menu includes steak, baked potato, coleslaw, Post milk and soda. There will be a DJ for dancing following the dinner. Cost is $10. Proceeds benefit local charities.
