Mountain State Apple Harvest Festival


Festival events include a grand parade, arts and crafts show, live entertainment, dancing and a fireworks display. Events today and Saturday will be held throughout Berkeley and Jefferson counties; Sunday's events will be at the Berkeley County Youth Fairgrounds off Golf Course Road in Martinsburg, W.Va. Pancake breakfast


The junior class of Boonsboro High School will sponsor its annual pancake breakfast. Saturday, 7 to 11 a.m. Boonsboro High School cafeteria. $5, adults; $4, students.




Myersville Trolley Festival


Visitors can see Trolley Car 150, a 1918 restored trolley, and pottery, sawmill, blacksmith and maple syrup demonstrations. On Saturday, members of the 4-H Horse and Pony Club and the 4-H Club Tailwaggers (dog acts) will hold demonstrations. A sheepherding demonstration by border collies, "Scales and Tales," will be available Sunday. Children's activities also will be offered. Pumpkin festival

Showcase of schools


Celebrate 140 years of public education in Washington County. Valley Mall will be filled with historic displays and exhibits featuring Washington County Public Schools. The celebration will begin Saturday at 10 a.m. with a parade and ceremonial showcase. Continues through Sunday, Oct. 23.




Poetry festival


The Sotto Voce Poetry Festival will showcase nationally recognized poets Gerald Stern and Rob Carney. Stern will give two readings today, and Carney will give a reading and conduct a workshop Saturday. Shepherdstown poet Ethan Fischer will serve as the festival's emcee. Today, 1 to 8:30 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Most events will take place at the Entler Hotel and the auditorium of the Robert C. Byrd Center for Legislative Studies at Shepherd University. Fall house tour


Houses on the Fulton County Fall House Tour include an 1844 brick farmhouse, an 1848 log home and the restored Fairview one-room school at Amaranth. Saturday and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m. Tickets cost $10. MasterWorks I


Maryland Symphony Orchestra will present MasterWorks I: "A Delightful Season Opener" with violinist Rachel Barton Pine. Saturday, 8 p.m.; Sunday, 3 p.m. The Maryland Theatre, 21 S.
