CTC-Shepherd to offer printing technology degree

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - The Community and Technical College of Shepherd and the Community and Technical College at West Virginia University Institute of Technology have reached a partnership agreement for the creation of an associate degree program in printing technology beginning in spring 2006.

Beverly Jo Harris, president of CTC at WVU-Tech, said the agreement will help support the printing industries in the region. Both CTC-Shepherd and CTC at WVU-Tech have long-standing relationships with Quad Graphics. CTC-Shepherd has been providing customized training options for the printing industry for several years.

The partnership agreement creates an associate degree program, which can be completed in two years of study. CTC-Shepherd will offer the general studies component of the program, and CTC at WVU-Tech will provide the technical courses.

The Community and Technical College of Shepherd, at 400 W. Stephen St. in Martinsburg, has been in operation since 1974 and moved to Martinsburg in 2001. In March, CTC-Shepherd was accredited as an independent institution by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association.

CTC-Shepherd offers associate and certificate programs, as well as many certifications, and provides instruction primarily to residents of Berkeley, Jefferson and Morgan counties.

The Community and Technical College at West Virginia University Institute of Technology was established as a part of WVU-Tech in the late 1960s. In 2004, CTC at WVU-Tech was accredited as an independent institution by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association.

CTC at WVU-Tech offers a variety of two-year degree programs in high-demand technical fields such as engineering technology, printing technology, dental hygiene, computer technology, business and office technology, and allied health.

CTC at WVU-Tech is in Montgomery, W.Va., on the co-located campus of WVU-Tech, a regional campus of West Virginia University.
