Public Works board awards $230,440 in Open Space

ANNAPOLIS - The Maryland Board of Public Works awarded a total of $230,440 in Program Open Space funds this week for projects at three Hagerstown parks and at Smithsburg's Veterans Park.

The money went to:

  • Pangborn Park for the installation of new fountains in the lake, a gazebo, handicapped-accessible playground equipment and lighting for the tennis courts

  • Fairgrounds Park for construction of two handicapped-accessible pavilions and installation of six overhead lights for the deck hockey rink

  • City Park for construction of a fountain to aerate the lake

  • Veterans Park for restroom renovation


The three-member Board of Public Works includes Gov. Robert Ehrlich, Comptroller William Donald Schaefer and Treasurer Nancy Kopp.
