Woman charged with doing business without license

A Hagerstown businesswoman was in Washington County District Court on Tuesday facing charges of operating a business without a license.

Gail Darlene Pittsnogle, 53, of 17804 Alpine Drive in Maugansville, was charged in August with selling cigarettes without a license, doing business without a traders license, operating a restaurant without a license and doing business without a license, according to court documents.

Pittsnogle owned South End Tavern at 807 S. Potomac St. in Hagerstown.

She requested that her court date be postponed so a lawyer would have time to review her case, documents state.

An undercover police officer ordered two beers, a pack of cigarettes and a small pizza from the tavern Aug. 8, documents state. The officer was investigating the illegal sale of cigarettes at Pittsnogle's business.

A few days later, the same officer discovered the business had no current cigarette, traders or restaurant license, documents state. That same day, officers used a search and seizure warrant to enter the tavern and take 77 packs of cigarettes, documents state.
