Poet will read from book at library

Poet Kay Bosgraaf will read from her new book of poems, "Song of Serendipity," at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at Washington County Free Library. A question-and-answer session with the author and a book signing will follow.

Capitol Theatre shows rescheduled

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Glenn Miller Orchestra Show scheduled for tonight and The Four Freshmen show scheduled for Friday, Oct. 28, relocated from the Capitol Theatre to Shippensburg University's Memorial Auditorium, have been rescheduled for next year due to slow ticket sales.

The rescheduled performances will be back in the Capitol Theatre on the following dates: Glenn Miller Orchestra at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 30, 2006, and The Four Freshmen at 8 p.m. Friday, April 7, 2006. Patrons who have purchased tickets from the Capitol Theatre box office to see either of these performances should call the Capitol Theatre at 1-717-263-0202 to exchange their tickets or for refund information.

Indoor yard sale is Saturday at school

Fountaindale Elementary School PTA will have its third annual indoor yard sale from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 8, at the school.

Table rentals are $10 each. To reserve a table, call 301-491-6354. Vendor setup is at 7:30 a.m. Drop your check off at the front office no later than Wednesday, Oct. 5.

The Scholastic Book Fair also will be open during the sale. The book fair's medieval theme is "The Kingdom of Reading - Where Books Rule." The Washington County Free Library will provide help in finding age-appropriate reading books for children who attend. A story time also is planned.

Proceeds from the yard sale and book fair benefit the students of Fountaindale.

Ice House Holiday Show auditions slated

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. -Auditions for the production of the 2005 Ice House Holiday Show are scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, and Thursday, Oct. 6, at the Ice House. All roles are open to the community.

This year's production is "The Hanukkah Goblins," the adaptation of a folk tale by Brice Williams.

The goblins of the title take over a town so the townspeople can no longer celebrate Hanukkah. There are roles for children and adults. Backstage positions are also available.

The play will be performed on the first two weekends in December opening Friday, Dec. 2, as part of the town's Yule Weekend. It will be staged at the Ice House at the corner of Independence and Mercer streets.
