Boonsboro council approves storm management contract

October 04, 2005|By KAREN HANNA

BOONSBORO - Boonsboro property owners who have faced flooding from water off South Mountain might enjoy some relief after the Town Council on Monday night approved a contract to divert runoff.

The council voted 5-0 to approve a $105,000 storm-water management contract. The agreement will address an issue the "county pretty much refused to do anything about, and which we have residents on Saint Paul Street suffering because of it," Mayor Charles F. "Skip" Kauffman said.

According to the contract, David M. Merchant Inc. of Hagerstown, will place an underground pipe in the area to divert water on the east side of Saint Paul Street so it will flow to Orchard Drive and out through a storm drain, Town Manager John Kendall said after the council meeting.

The runoff problem directly affects three property owners, Kendall said. An estimate for the work came in at $102,000, Kendall told the council.
