CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Borough police have charged one man and issued an arrest warrant for another in connection with a May robbery in which a 74-year-old man was beaten.
Joseph S. Statum III, 18, of 603 Heintzelman Ave., was arraigned Thursday before Magisterial District Judge David Hawbaker on charges of first-degree felony charges of robbery, aggravated assault and criminal conspiracy, police said. He was jailed in Franklin County Prison on $100,000 bond, police said.
Police said Statum was taken into custody at his home. He was still in jail Sunday, a prison official said.
A warrant also was issued for the arrest of Keith G. Riley, 24, address unavailable. Police were asking for anyone with information about Riley's whereabouts to call them at 717-264-4131.
Police said the robbery occurred on the night of May 10 when two men entered Scotties Coin Wash, 647 S. Second St., and attacked Garnet Houpt of Chambersburg and stole his wallet. Houpt sustained a laceration to his head, and neck and shoulder injuries, police said.
