Woman moves out of Williamsport house

October 01, 2005|By Andrew Schotz

WILLIAMSPORT

A woman moved out of a farmhouse owned by the Town of Williamsport Friday, ending a dispute over when she would leave, Williamsport Mayor James G. McCleaf II said.

"She took her last belongings this morning," McCleaf said Friday afternoon.

Patricia France moved into the house on Springfield Lane in 2001 under an agreement that gave her free occupancy if she made certain improvements to the house.

France told the town in May that she would leave in July. When she tried to extend her stay several weeks later, the town balked, ordered her to leave and took her to court.

At a hearing in Washington County District Court on Sept. 23, a judge gave France one week to move out.
