No. 1 Jefferson Cougars (5-0) at Musselman Applemen (2-3)

When: Today, 7 p.m.

Series: Musselman leads, 12-6.

Last meeting: 2004 - Jefferson, 21-0.

Last week: The Cougars defeated Potomac Falls, 31-7. ... Musselman fell short to Fort Hill, 28-27.

Notes: Jefferson has not won a game in the series at Musselman since a 3-0 victory in 1993. ... The Cougars finish a string of four straight home games before going to Fort Hill and Martinsburg. ... Josh Brown had TDs on a 90-yard kickoff return and 85-yard run. ... Rusty Riner scored four touchdowns for the Applemen but a failed PAT kick was the difference in a loss to Fort Hill. ... Riner rushed for 160 yards on 20 carries and the Applemen gained 343 total offensive yards.

Potomac Falls Panthers (0-3) at No. 2 Martinsburg Bulldogs (5-0)

Last week: The Panthers lost to Jefferson, 31-7. ... The Bulldogs beat Broad Run, 55-27.


Notes: The Panthers lost their second straight game to an Eastern Panhandle team. They lost to Hedgesville 34-6 on Sept. 9. ... The Panthers were held to just 101 yards rushing and 4 yards passing against Jefferson. ... The Bulldogs won their ninth straight regular-season game. ... RB Josh Twyman ran for 100 yards, his fifth straight game with 100 or more yards rushing. ... Eight different players scored a touchdown for the Bulldogs last week.

North Carroll Panthers (0-3) at No. 3 Tuscarora Titans (3-0)

When: Saturday, 3 p.m.

Series: First meeting.

Last week: The Panthers lost to Winters Mill, 39-0. ... The Titans beat Smithsburg, 28-0.

Notes: The Panthers were held to just 77 yards of offense and four first downs in the loss to Winters Mill. They also turned the ball over three times. ... The Titans recorded the first shutout in school history last week against Smithsburg. ... Cruz Mannherz ran for 137 yards and two TDs for the Titans. ... Tuscarora held the Leopards to 129 yards of offense and took advantage of three turnovers.

No. 4 Middletown Knights (3-0) at Liberty Lions (1-2)

Series: Middletown leads, 2-0.

Last meeting: 1988 - Middletown, 20-0.

Last week: The Knights beat Brunswick, 31-10. ... The Lions lost to Century, 34-14.

Notes: This is Liberty's first game in the MVAL Piedmont Conference. The Lions moved down from the Chesapeake Conference this season. ... QB Kevin Linehan ran for 112 yards and threw for 59 in the Knights' win over Brunswick last week. ... RB Parker Lumley ran for 91 yards and two TDs. ... QB Colton Weaver ran for one TD and threw for another in the loss to Century.

No. 5 Mercersburg Blue Storm (4-0) at Lawrenceville Big Red (1-1)

Series: Lawrenceville, 4-1.

Last meeting: 2004 - Lawrenceville School, 28-7.

Last week: The Blue Storm downed Hun School, 9-3. ... Lawrenceville got past Germantown Academy, 28-20.

Notes: Mercersburg Academy won 12-6 in 2000 and since that point have been laced by Lawrenceville, allowing 37 points per game. ... The Blue Storm were led by Jarvis Hodge's 143 yards rushing in a big win over Hun School. ... The Mercersburg defense held a wide-open Hun offense to 199 yards. ... This is the MAPL opener for Lawrenceville. ... The Big Red is a team made up primarily of juniors. ... RB David Caldwell had a pair of TDs for the Big Red, each from eight yards out.

Century Knights (1-2) at No. 6 Thomas Johnson Patriots (2-1)

When: Today, 7 p.m.

Series: First meeting.

Last week: The Knights beat Liberty, 34-14. ... The Patriots pounded North Hagerstown, 46-0.

Notes: This is Century's first game in the MVAL Chesapeake Conference. The Knights moved up from the Piedmont this year. ... Century coach Tony Shermeyer got his first career victory last week. ... Ryan Pentz scored two TDs (one rushing, one receiving) and QB T.J. Willougby threw two TD passes for the Knights, who rolled up 356 yards of offense. ... The 46 points scored by the Patriots were the most since a 47-12 win over Crossland in 1999, and the margin of victory was the largest by a TJ team since a 48-0 win over Westminster in 1995. ... RB Bobby Humphries had a pair of 63-yard TD runs and Terrance Kerns also scored twice, including an 84-yard punt return.

No. 7 St. John's-PH Vikings (3-0) at Archbishop Spalding Cavaliers (4-0)

Archbishop Spalding QB Casey Amsler threw a trio of scores in a second-period waltz against John Carroll, including two to sophomore Pat Magnum. ... The Cavaliers also had two scores from special teams.
