City to hold Dumpster program

The City of Hagerstown will hold its annual fall Dumpster program for city residents from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, through Friday, Oct. 14, and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15. Proof of residency is required.

The program helps residents dispose of household waste, furniture, mattresses, bikes, lawn mowers and building materials. It is not for commercial haulers.

The following items are not permitted: Tires, batteries, paint, chemical waste, hazardous waste and items that contain Freon such as refrigerators, air conditioners and dehumidifiers.

Acceptable items can be taken to the intersection of South Potomac Street and West Memorial Boulevard, across from Bester Elementary School. Entry can be made from South Potomac Street by turning into the alley by New Deal Truck Parts & Service.

The city asks people not to put yard waste and recyclable items in the Dumpsters because the city has separate programs for those items. For information on those programs, call 301-739-8577, ext. 125.
