Two injured in I-81 wreck

Four charged at checkpoint

GREENCASTLE, Pa.

Two people were taken to Washington County Hospital with minor injuries Friday after an accident in the southbound lane of Interstate 81 in Antrim Township, Pa., Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg, Pa., said.

Police said Josias Lopez, 28, of Gaithersburg, Md., was driving a white 1994 Ford Aerostar that contained four passengers when the left rear tire blew, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle then traveled off the right shoulder.

Passengers Daniel Ribon, 48, and Gilberto Perez, whose age was unavailable, both of Gaithersburg, were taken to the hospital.

FREDERICK, Md. - Four motorists were charged with driving while impaired in Frederick County in a checkpoint conducted by Maryland State Police in Frederick and the Frederick County Sheriff's Office, police said.

State police and the sheriff's office conducted "Checkpoint Strike Force" on U.S. 15, north of 7th Street, between Friday at 11 p.m. and Saturday at 3 a.m., police said.

The operation checked 715 vehicles. Eleven motorists were pulled to the side for additional field sobriety testing. Of those 11, four were arrested and charged with driving while impaired, police said.
