Police still search for man in Thursday shooting

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Chambersburg police still were searching Friday afternoon for the man who shot a woman in the leg Thursday during an armed robbery outside of CVS Pharmacy at 125 W. Washington St. in Chambersburg.

Detective Sgt. Dianne Kelso of the Chambersburg Police Department said she is convinced that "there are more witnesses who are not aware that they are witnesses."

"The suspect was in the area for a period of time prior to the incident, and given the time of day and that it's a high-traffic area," there probably are more people who saw the man, she said.

The robbery took place shortly after 4 p.m., when the woman was shot and her purse was stolen, police said.

The 46-year-old Franklin County woman was walking to her vehicle when she was approached by a man standing on the sidewalk outside of the store, police said. The man demanded she give him her purse and as she was backing away, the woman saw that the man had a gun, police said.

The man shot the woman while taking her purse.

Detective Will Frisby said the robber was described as black and appeared to be in his mid-20s, about 6 feet tall with a medium build and shoulder-length braided hair. He was wearing a black do-rag, dark blue T-shirt, baggy full-length jeans and black sneakers.

After the shooting, the man ran east, through an alley between Water Street and Ludwig Avenue.

"If people have information, we want them to contact us," Kelso said.

Kelso may be reached at 717-264-4131.
