Stephen Held, son of Cindy and Charles Held of Hagerstown, recently received a masters of business administration in information security from James Madison University and was commissioned with the U.S. Air Force. He also completed his ROTC Program at the University of Virginia.

Held will serve as a second lieutenant with the Communications Squadron at Charleston Air Force Base, Charleston, S.C.




Navy Seaman Recruit Andrew M. Santamaria, son of Suzanne M. and Mark S. Santamaria of Martinsburg, W.Va., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Santamaria is a 2004 graduate of Hedgesville (W.Va.) High School.




Navy Seaman Apprentice Richard A. Blevins, son of Cindy L. Blevins of Clear Spring and Richard A. Blevins Sr. of Bel Air, Md., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill, with honors and was meritoriously promoted to his current rank.

Blevins is a 2004 graduate of C. Milton Wright High School in Bel Air.

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Jamie R. Greene, son of Tracey A. Simpson of Chambersburg, Pa., and Neil R. Greene of Haymarket, Va., and his shipmates took part in a community relations project during a port visit to Dubai, United Arab Emirates. They were on a scheduled deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism while assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge, homeported in Norfolk, Va.

Marines and sailors of Greene's unit volunteered for the project at City of Hope, a women's shelter in Jumeirah. Volunteers painted hallways and performed general repair work, while some of the service members played with the children staying at the home.

Greene joined the Navy in August 2000.




Civilian Bryan E. Crosson, son of Esperanza P. Alzona and David R. Crosson of Frederick, Md., recently participated in the U.S. Naval Academy's weeklong summer seminar program in Annapolis.

Crosson attends Gov. Thomas Johnson High School in Frederick.




Civilian Lucas W. Daves, son of Marsha A. Daves of Thurmont, Md., and Rick R. Daves of Oklahoma City, recently enlisted in the United States Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Navy Recruiting District Dallas, Irving, Texas.

Daves will report for active duty to undergo basic training at the Navy's Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill.

Daves is a 1999 graduate of Stillwater (Okla.) High School.




Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Chevy L. Kensbock, daughter of Bobbi Dearstine of Frederick, Md., departed on a scheduled deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, homeported in Norfolk, Va.

Prior to deploying, Kensbock and more than 7,500 shipmates of the USS Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group successfully completed a Composite Training Unit Exercise and a Joint Task Force Exercise (JTFEX). The JTFEX is the final step in preparing the strike group for deployment, and is designed to test its ability to operate in a complex, hostile environment with other U.S. and coalition forces.

Kensbock, a 1998 graduate of Gov. Thomas Johnson High School in Frederick, joined the Navy in October 2000.




Navy Seaman Recruit Kenneth G. Kirby, a 2004 graduate of Brunswick (Md.) High School, and his shipmates returned from a three-month summer underway period while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk, forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan.

Kirby and more than 5,300 shipmates participated in exercises Talisman Saber 2005, the third annual Orange Crush and Joint Air and Sea Exercise (JASEX) 2005.

Talisman Saber 2005 gave the USS Kitty Hawk the chance to train with Australian military forces; Orange Crush focused on integrating different parts of the strike group; and JASEX tested the group's ability to operate with different parts of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Kirby joined the Navy in June 2004.




Navy Fireman Ian T. Kirk, son of Karen J. Brady of Martinsburg, W.Va. and Dennis E. Kirk of Hedgesville, W.Va., and his shipmates completed Maritime Security Operations (MSO) while on a scheduled deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism while assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge homeported in Norfolk, Va.

Kirk is a 2003 graduate of Hedgesville (W.Va.) High School.
