Parts of Hillcrest Road closing Friday



Sections of Hillcrest Road will be closed Friday beginning at 7 a.m., weather-permitting, while modular home sections are delivered between Potomac and Mulberry avenues.

Motorists approaching the work zone should expect to encounter barricades and might be forced to detour onto other streets. The work is expected to be completed by 4 p.m.

Emergency vehicles will be able to pass through the work area. In the event of rain, the work will be rescheduled for Monday, Sept. 26.

Literacy, ESL tutor training offered



The Literacy Council of Washington County will host free basic literacy and English as a Second Language tutor-training workshops, parts I and II, on Saturdays, Nov. 12 and 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church, North Potomac Street and Randolph Avenue, from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Participants are asked to bring their own lunches. Beverages will be provided.
