2005 APPLE BUTTER FESTIVAL CALENDAR OF EVENTS



Saturday, Oct. 8

9 a.m.: Parade, "The Best of Berkeley Springs"

Parade route: from Berkeley Springs High School north through the square to the old train station on Williams Street. This year's parade is organized by the Berkeley Springs Jaycees and sponsored by Citizens National Bank.

10:30 a.m.: Festival opens; Voice of the Apple Butter Festival from the Bandstand: Jeanne Mozier.

All day: Apple butter making; gallery show and sale at the Ice House; Apple Butter Festival and old community band exhibits at the Museum of the Berkeley Springs above the Roman Bath House

11 a.m.: Turtle race sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club, assemble at Courthouse

11 a.m.: Announce parade winners at the bandstand. Hall of Fame sponsored by U.S. Silica Company and the turtle race winners

11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and 12:45 to 1:30 p.m.: The Professors playing Dixieland Jazz at the bandstand. Sponsored by BB&T Bank.

1:45 p.m.: Announce winners at the bandstand of the apple butter and bake contests sponsored by the Morgan County Extension Homemakers.

2 to 2:45 p.m. and 3:15 to 4 p.m.: Critton Hollow String Band performing old time music in concert at the bandstand. Sponsored by Tom Seely Furniture.

2:50 p.m.: Beard and mustache contest at the bandstand, sponsored by Re/Max Enterprises.

5 p.m.: Festival closes

Sunday, Oct. 9

Noon: Festival opens; Voice of the Apple Butter Festival from the Bandstand: Jeanne Mozier.

All afternoon: Apple butter making in the square; Gallery show and sale at the Ice House; Apple Butter Festival and old community band Exhibits in the Museum of the Berkeley Springs above the Roman Bath House

1 to 2 p.m. and 2:45 to 4 p.m.: Red Moon, one of the region's liveliest bluegrass bands, will perform. An evolution of longtime festival favorite, New Liberty, Red Moon first appeared in 2001. Sponsored by City National Bank.

1:15 p.m.: Egg toss; bring a partner and assemble at the bandstand. Sponsored by Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home.

2:15 p.m.: Hog Calling Contest - Contestants are to assemble at the bandstand. Junior and senior divisions. Beginners welcome. Event sponsored by the Morgan Messenger.

4:15 p.m.: Apple Butter quilt drawing. The quilt was stitched by Rika Bennett. Tickets available at the Chamber of Commerce booth in the Park. Sponsored by Coldwell Banker Premier Homes.

5 p.m.: Festival closes.
