School presents Shirk with DEKALB award

Clear Spring High School recently presented graduate Lindsay Shirk the school's highest agricultural honor, the DEKALB Agricultural Accomplishment Award, sponsored by Monsanto Company.

Shirk, the daughter of Edwin and Bonnie Shirk, received the award for excellence in academics, leadership and agricultural work experience, the school said in a press release.

Shirk's accomplishments include Maryland FFA gold medalist in the Farm Business Management and Land Judging career events; and silver medalist in the National FFA Forestry Career Event. She is state president of Maryland FFA.

Susan Lowery was Shirk's agricultural education instructor at Clear Spring.

As the winner of the 2005 award, Shirk's name will be recorded on a permanent plaque displayed at Clear Spring High School.

Shirk is attending Hagerstown Community College pursuing a degree in environmental science.
