Beaver Creek

Access: Semi-private.
Layout: 18 holes, par 72, 6,878 yards. A challenging course with plenty of trees on some holes. Course follows a rolling terrain, but is walkable. A new state-of-the-art clubhouse was expected to open early in the fall.
Cost: Full-time members pay a one-time initiation fee of $1,200 and dues of $150 per month for single, unlimited golf play. There are other rates for juniors, seniors, families and couples available.
For nonmembers:
18 holes - $35 weekdays, $50 with cart; $40 weekends and holidays, $55 with cart

Address: 9535 Mapleville Road, on Md. 66 between Boonsboro and Smithsburg.

Directions: From Interstate 70, take Exit 35 and head one-half mile south on Md. 66.

Black Rock

Access: Public.

Layout: 18 holes, par 72, 6,646 yards.

The county's newest course at 16 years old, Black Rock is one of Maryland's most spectacular public courses.

Cost: Greens fees for county residents:

Nine holes - $14 weekdays.

18 holes - $23 weekdays, $28 weekends; $15 for a cart.

Greens fees for out-of-county residents:

Nine holes - $16 weekdays.

18 holes - $29 weekdays, $39 weekends; $15 for a cart.

Seniors, in-county (weekdays only):

18 holes - $15; $12 for a cart.

Seniors, out-of-county (weekdays only):

18 holes - $17; $12 for a cart.

Juniors, 17 and under (weekdays only):

18 holes - $15; $12 for a cart.

Twilight (after 4:30 p.m., seven days a week) - $15; $10 for a cart.

Tee times are required one week in advance.

Directions: From Hagerstown, go east on Dual Highway and turn left onto Mount Aetna Road. Course is about one mile on the right.

Fountain Head

Access: Private.

Layout: 18 holes, par 71, 6,326 yards.

Cost: Must be a member or a guest of member to play.

Address: 13316 Fountain Head Road, off Pennsylvania Avenue, north of Hagerstown.

Hagerstown Greens at Hamilton Run

Access: Public.

Layout: Nine holes, par 34, 2,554 yards. Course is short and tight. Only one water hazard. One par 5, three par 3s.

Cost:

Weekdays - $8 for nine holes, $11 for 18 holes; seniors (62 and older) and juniors (16 and younger), $7 for nine holes, $9 for 18 holes.

Weekends - $12 for nine or 18 holes

Twilight (from 6 p.m. until dusk) - $6.50

Carts: $9 extra for nine, $14 extra for 18; for seniors, $8.50 extra for nine, $13.50 extra for 18.

The best deal is to pay $250 for yearly membership for unlimited play, $200 for seniors. The family rate is $400 annually.

Walk-ons only, no tee times.

Yingling's

Access: Public.

Layout: 18 holes, par 54. The county's only par-3 course.

The course is ideal for beginners and others who want to work on their iron game.

Cost:

$7 for nine holes, $9 for 18 holes, $13 for all-day play.

For seniors and those younger than 16 - $6 for nine holes, $8 for 18 holes, $11 for all-day play.

No carts. Walk-ons only, no tee times.
