Fairgrounds Park

September 19, 2005

Fairgrounds Park covers 68 acres northeast of downtown Hagerstown.

Entrances to the park are off North Cleveland and North Cannon avenues.

New to the park this year are a rental pavilion and basketball courts. The pavilion, which can be used for family picnics and other events, can be rented for $45 by city residents and for $65 by noncity residents.

The park has softball and soccer fields; a Little League baseball field; a BMX-style, off-road bicycle racetrack; an in-line skating rink; a skateboard park; a playground; and a one-mile loop trail for walking, running and biking.

The indoor skateboard park features a 6-foot half-pipe. Helmets, knee pads and elbow pads are required. Park officials encourage users to bring their own safety equipment, but it can be rented for $1 an hour at the park.

The skateboard park is open April through November on Wednesdays from 5 to 7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m.

The city hosts fireworks at the park every year to celebrate Independence Day. In October, the park hosts the city's Harvest Hoedown.
