Legion baseball

Washington County has one American Legion baseball team and two Junior Legion teams:

  • Funkstown Post 211 fields the lone American Legion team, which draws from the entire county.

  • Funkstown's Junior Legion team has players from North and South Hagerstown high schools, St. Maria Goretti, Smithsburg and St. James.

  • Williamsport Post 202's Junior Legion team has players from Williamsport, Boonsboro, Hancock and Clear Spring.



Legion teams generally are made up of players ages 16-18. Junior legion teams are made up of 14- and 15-year-olds.

Teams play between 35 and 40 games with an opportunity to qualify for state, regional and national tournaments.

Funkstown won its first Maryland American Legion State Tournament title since 1983 in August and traveled to Brooklawn, N.J. to compete in the Mid-Atlantic American Legion Tournament.
