Children's Village

September 19, 2005

Children's Village of Washington County is a not-for-profit safety education organization that has provided elementary schoolchildren of the county with the safety skills necessary to make informed decisions since it was established in 1991.

Classes are provided for children taught in private and church schools, as well as for those taught at home. Children from outside the county may attend the classes for a fee. For instance, 23 elementary schools in Franklin County, Pa., have made arrangements to participate during the 2005-06 school year.

Staff includes Executive Director Rochelle Morrell and Program Director Brenda Donaldson. Board President is Xanthy Munson-Hoover.

While not a part of Washington County Public Schools, Children's Village receives bus transportation and curriculum support.

Other financial support comes in the form of grants, private donations, foundations, contributions from Washington County and the gaming commission. Several grants are tied to the Department of Homeland Security/FEMA.

Fundraisers also are held.
