Canal Apple Festival

Hancock Lions Club's 29th annual festival features arts and crafts vendors, food, car show, baby contest and live music. The festival continues today at 11 a.m. with a parade ending at Widmeyer Memorial Park. Festival events will be today and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Widmeyer Memorial Park, Hancock. Free admission. Sharpsburg Heritage Day

A celebration of Civil War heritage on the anniversary of the Battle of Antietam. Civil War-era music will be performed all day at the town square. Also lectures, historical exhibits, self-guided walking tour of churches and stone houses, food and old-time craft demonstrations. Today, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A church dinner will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, followed by a Jimmie Brown Appalachian music concert at 7:30 p.m. Tickets to the dinner will be sold at the door. Barbecue cook-off

Professional and amateur cooks will compete. Music will be provided by Roadside Cafe. Purple Cow Patty Bingo will offer prizes of $250, $750 and $1,000. Sponsored by Williamsport Rotary. MSO Pops concert

The Maryland Symphony Orchestra performs its annual Pops concert. This year's show is "Bravo Big Band." The MSO will perform "American Patrol," "Moonlight Serenade," "String of Pearls" and other tunes, as well as a medley of Frank Sinatra songs. Today, 8 p.m. The Maryland Theatre, 21 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown.
