Broad Run Spartans (0-2) at No. 1 Jefferson Cougars (3-0)

When: Today, 7 p.m.

Series: Jefferson leads, 4-1.

Last meeting: 1983 - Broad Run, 22-12.

Last week: The Spartans lost to Manassas Park, 20-7. ... The Cougars rallied to beat Park View, 37-34.

Notes: RB Thayer Nelson rushed for 116 yards on 19 carries in the Spartans' loss to Manassas Park. ... The Cougars have won five straight regular-season games for the first time since they won six straight in 1987-88. ... QB Patrick Burns was 10 of 21 for 251 yards and four TDs against Park View. ... WR Josh Brown had just two catches in the game, but did score his sixth TD of the season.

No. 2 Martinsburg Bulldogs (3-0) at Hampshire Trojans (2-1)

When: Today, 7 p.m.

Series: Martinsburg leads, 2-0.

Last meeting: 2004 - Martinsburg, 52-7.

Last week: The Bulldogs beat Robert E. Lee 27-20 for their seventh straight regular-season win. ... The Trojans edged James Wood, 14-11.


Notes: Jacquin Moore caught a 25-yard TD pass from Dustin Peters to put the Bulldogs ahead for good against Robert E. Lee. ... RB Josh Twyman recorded his third straight 100-yard rushing game, carrying 24 times for 134 yards and a TD. ... The Bulldogs rolled up 348 yards of offense against the Leemen. ... Trojans FB Danny Nicholson ran for 112 yards but did not score in the win over James Wood.

Frederick Cadets (0-1) at No. 3 North Hagerstown Hubs (1-0)

When: Today, 7 p.m. at School Stadium

Series: Tied, 16-16.

Last meeting: 2004 - Frederick, 35-7.

Last week: The Cadets lost their season opener to Tuscarora, 42-29. The Hubs won their eighth straight regular-season game, beating Liberty, 38-34.

Notes: The game is a matchup of Class 2A West foes. ... Cadets RB Gerald Price ran for a combined 88 yards on two TD runs, but finished the game with just 90 yards on seven carries. WR Damien Wallace threw for 203 yards and two TDs in his first start for Frederick. The Hubs scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to get the victory at Liberty. ... Logan Kelso threw for 210 yards and four TDs, including two to Jarell Hasan in the final period. ... Marcus Scott rushed for 143 yards and a TD.

South Hagerstown Rebels (0-1) at No. 4 Tuscarora Titans (1-0)

When: Today, 7 p.m.

Series: First meeting.

Last week: The Rebels lost their season opener to Walkersville, 26-7. The Titans got just the second win in the program's short history, beating Frederick, 42-29.

Notes: The Rebels outgained Walkersville last week but turned the ball over three times and were flagged for 11 penalties. ... No fewer than five backs, including QB Marcellus Sumlin, gained yards on the ground as the Rebels totaled 131 rushing yards. The Titans are in just their second varsity season and their first with seniors on the roster. Titans QB Chris Castro made an early-season impression, running for 113 yards and one TD and throwing for 125 yards and four TDs. RB Cruz Mannherz added 154 yards on the ground. The Titans had possession for 33 of the game's 48 minutes. ... The victory ended an eight-game losing streak for the Titans.

No. 5 Middletown Knights (1-0) at Boonsboro Warriors (1-0)

When: Today, 7 p.m.

Series: Middletown leads, 26-2.

Last meeting: 2002 - Middletown, 37-0.

Last week: The Knights won their season opener over Thomas Johnson, 14-8. The Warriors won their first season opener since 1998 with a 40-13 victory over Moorefield (W.Va.).

Notes: The Knights have won the last eight meetings, shutting out the Warriors in six of those games. This is the first meeting since the expansion of the MVAL in 2003. The Knights gave Lorne Ridenour a win in his first game as a head coach. Pat McCarrick caught a 22-yard TD pass from Kevin Linehan early in the fourth quarter to give the Knights the lead for good against TJ. The Warriors racked up 292 yards on the ground in their win over Moorefield. ... Kyle Kane had a 77-yard TD run on the Warriors' second play from scrimmage and Jeremiah Mills ran for two TDs. ... Ridenour was a three-year starter at Boonsboro and played for Clayton Anders in his first year as Boonsboro's coach in 1985.

No. 6 Mercersburg Blue Storm (2-0) at St. Albans Bulldogs (1-0)

When: Saturday, 1 p.m.

Series: First meeting.

Last week: The Blue Storm had an offensive show with a 47-21 win over Wyoming Seminary. ... St. Albans started its season with a 23-10 win over Bishop O'Connell.

Notes: Dating back to the final game of 2004, Mercersburg has won three games in a row. ... The Blue Storm have not won three successive games to begin a season since 2000. ... Jarvis Hodge scored twice and David Ashton had 3 TDs inclunding an interception and punt return. ... St. Albans did all of its damage on the ground against Bishop O'Connell in its opener, rushing for 307 yards. Muldoon scored twice and rushed for 103 yards on 17 carries.

No. 7 Greencastle Blue Devils (2-0) at Waynesboro Indians (0-2)

When: Today, 7:30 p.m.

Series: Waynesboro leads, 9-6-1.

Last meeting: 2004 - Greencastle, 47-14.
