Local dealership hosts KidSafe program

September 16, 2005

Younger Toyota, 1935 Dual Highway, is hosting Operation KidSafe sessions designed to offer protection for young children.

Operation KidSafe takes a child's picture using a digital video capture device that interacts with custom software. The software also captures the child's fingerprints, using a digital fingerprint capture device, and includes them as part of the child's file.

Parents are provided with an 8 1/2-by-11-inch printout containing the photo and fingerprints. Parents can use the copy they receive to turn over to law enforcement anywhere in the world to aid in a missing child investigation.

The child's file is not put in a database. The only record of the visit goes home with the parent.

Police officials say time is critical in the recovery of missing children.

The Younger dealership will host the program today from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be games, prizes, face painting, balloons and food for the whole family.
